Methods and Languages in Contact: Crossdisciplinary Approaches to Language Contacts, SLA and Translation

Wednesday 27 February 2013, Joensuu (2 ECTS points)

Registrations by 15 February 2013

The crossdisciplinary research network CROSSLING (UEF), the Finnish post-graduate school LANGNET and the Doctoral Programme in Language Studies (UEF) organize jointly a workshop on research methods on 27 February 2013 in Joensuu. The workshop concentrates on cross-linguistic encounters of languages, language varieties, and speakers and on the relevant methods of research. The invited international and Finnish speakers represent contact linguistics, SLA research, translations studies, and language typology. The programme includes a crowdsourcing session in which PhD students may present their own research methods. The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers from different fields of study to learn from each other: Researchers in a related discipline or field of study may be utilizing methods which could also be used in one’s own research, and they may be discussing methodological questions which in another field have not even been raised.

The number of participants is restricted. If you wish to participate, please sign up by 15 February 2013 at crossling@uef.fi. The workshop is followed by the symposium “Language Contacts at the Crossroads of Disciplines” (Joensuu 28.2.-1.3.2013), also organized by CROSSLING. There are alternative ways to obtain credits for the workshop and the symposium; for instructions please contact the organizers at crossling@uef.fi.
