The symposium will be held in the Agora Building, which is part of the University of Eastern Finland’s campus in Joensuu. Agora is at the centre of the University campus, and easily accessible by bus, and only 10 minutes walk from the city centre.

The University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio merged to constitute the University of Eastern Finland on 1 January 2010. There are approximately 15,000 degree students and 2,800 members of staff studying and working on three campuses.

The city of Joensuu is situated in Eastern Finland in the middle of beautiful North Karelian nature at a place where the River Pielisjoki meets Lake Pyhäselkä. The surrounding area can be described as a meeting point between two different cultural traditions, one looking to the Protestant west, the other drawing on the East Orthodox religious tradition. This adds special flavour to the cultural atmosphere and everyday life of North Karelia. Today Joensuu and its neighbouring areas have a population of about 100,000 people. The city and its environs boast a lively cultural life.
