Sustainable forest management and reforestration in the Republic of Kazakhstan is a challenge characterised by low and vulnerable forest cover whose growth is hindered by forest fires, threats of diseases and pests and a need for trained
The programme proposed will enable stakeholders in consolidating their knowledge on high conservation value forests (HCVF) and HCVF Management, forest management, forest planning and forest inventory. Furthermore, the programme addresses conservation and protection of forests (biotic and abiotic e.g. fires, cuttings, pests and diseases) as well as multipurpose forest use using modern technologies and methodologies such as monitoring of forests using geographical information systems. In addition, the programme will also address conservation, restoration, reproduction and reforestration mechanisms. The progamme will also introduce research and innovation as well as training and capacity building interventions that UEF engages in Finland and globally. The programme will also include interaction with different stakeholders related to the forestry sector, including community forest owners, government and companies. An array of meetings, field trips and workshops will provide an avenue to broaden the project beneficiaries’ views and perceptions of sustainable forest and natural resource management.
